Watch What Happened When This Guy Trained Like the One-Punch Man for a Week

Imagine, if you will, a man who had honed his body so meticulously that he could overcome any opponent in battle—only to find that because of his great power, fighting no longer held any thrill for him, plunging him into an existential crisis. It sounds like the plot of an O. Henry story, or maybe a Rod Serling Twilight Zone episode. But it’s also the story of anime hero Saitama, the One-Punch Man.

Saitama is a fictional character, but his creators helpfully shared the workout that made him such a fearsome warrior: a daily regimen of 100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 squats, and a 10K run. Not all that much, in reality—but still a routine that can be followed easily to the letter. That’s led several intrepid YouTubers to try it IRL, with one guy concluding after 100 days that it was too cardio-intensive to help you gain muscle mass, and another deciding that after 300 days, it worked well for losing weight and toning muscles.

So in the great tradition of following in the One-Punch Man’s footsteps, YouTuber Behzinga decided he’d try the dead-simple workout for a week. The regimen may be uncomplicated, but the doesn’t make it easy. Early on, Behzinga notes that he’s not used to doing bodyweight exercises on his wrists, so the pushups are a challenge. He also has some trouble counting his squats, but that seems like more of a mental challenge than a physical one. With his bodyweight exercise, he heads out for his 10K run (6.2 miles). “I will—I will be One-Punch Man!” he declares.

After a week (and some One-Punch Man cosplay), Behzinga considers the results. Expecting any type of dramatic change in such a short time is unrealistic—but he does say he can see changes around his hips and upper abs, with his legs getting more toned. He’s also lost a little under three pounds. While he may not be a fighter so outstanding that battle no longer thrills him (the One-Punch Man’s whole deal), Behzinga did feel some progress after a week.
