In a world where your internet search volume can make or break you, rapper IDK flaunts naming conventions with a stage moniker that forces his fans to know exactly what they’re looking for when they want to find his music. But there’s no ambiguity when it comes to the 27-year-old artist’s fitness regimen—he means business when it comes time to train.
That’s the only way that IDK (which stands for “Ignorantly Delivering Knowledge,” not the more commonly used text speak phrase for “I don’t know”) was able to drop nearly 30 pounds over the space of a few months recently, which sets him up to be in batter shape for his hour-long sets on tour. The rapper worked with coach Simon Carter, the head trainer at Further Than Fitness in Hollywood, to lose the weight and get himself into stage shape. He calls fitness the second most important thing in his life right now—behind his music, obviously.
“I work out in order to get my mind right,” IDK told the Men’s Health crew when we hit the gym to check out his training plan. “I work out so that when I tour I can keep up with a lot of my shows, I do hour long sets.”
The rapper credits his trainer specifically for his drastic physique transformation. “What we really do is use fitness to work things out,” Carter says. “That’s our whole goal. Sometimes you got anxiety, stress, frustration, you’ve gotta work that out of you.”
Carter then put the rapper through a super functional workout with plyometrics, boxing, and plenty of movement—there’s not a traditional weight in sight. If you want to take on this routine, adjust it to the equipment you have on hand, like IDK does when he’s on the road. Just make sure to work within your own fitness level.
