Running the London marathon is daunting, whether you’re doing it for the first time or the fiftieth. This year, we’re offering two lucky readers the chance to train with a personal running coach.
We’re looking for people who already have a place in the marathon, and would like some one-on-one tuition, training advice and support in the coming months. We’d like to hear from first-timers, as well as those who have done the race before and would like to improve their time.
Our personal trainer, Sam Murphy, will work with you over three intensive sessions in early February, March and April. She will improve your technique, teach you drills, set goals and create a personalised training programme for you. Ideally you will already have started your training, but Sam will help you take it to the next level.
She will stay in touch with you via email all the way up to the big day, answering any questions about training or worries about the race itself. Sam is a qualified personal trainer and the author of Marathon: From Start to Finish (£12.99) and Running Well (£14.99). She has completed 14 marathons to date.
In return, you will keep a training diary and will blog about your progress for the Guardian website. Training sessions will take place outdoors in a London park, so you will need to be based in or around London or willing to travel (transport and accommodation costs are not included).
If you would like to be considered for the project, email [email protected] with MARATHON in the subject line, explaining in no more than 200 words what your marathon goals are and why you would like a personal trainer. The deadline for entries is midnight on Friday 30 January 2009.
