Earlier this year, Julianne Hough dyed her naturally blond hair a rich, coppery red, and claimed that she had "never felt more like ME" than she did with her fiery new hue. Five months later, however, the actor and dancer has returned to her roots (literally), armed with the invaluable lessons she learned about herself during her brief stint as a redhead.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Hough's close friend and stylist Riawna Capri, co-owner of Nine Zero One salon in Los Angeles, detailed the work that went into the transformation, which spanned a whole seven hours — though that still pales in comparison to the whopping nine hours Hough spent in the salon chair back in February when she went red. Alongside a series of photos of Hough showing off her newly "Honey Suckle Blonde" locks, Capri noted that she pretreated Hough's hair using Joico's Color Intensity Eraser.
"Red to Blonde is an all day affair [sic], breakfast and lunch and hopefully not dinner. When you do a color correction like this, focus on your client, book out the day for her. When you have time on your side, everything else is a breeze. 7 hours of great conversation and lots of laughs, Kinda makes me want to do color corrections more!!! (SIKE!)," Capri wrote in the caption. Joico also shared the exact combination of treatments, toners, and dyes Capri used if you're interested in trying out Hough's gorgeous, buttery shade for yourself.
Hough reposted several of Capri's photos of her new look on her own Instagram feed. "Back to my ROOTS ✨ I've been creating and developing a secret project about transformation and identity, and I wouldn't have felt this confident in my skin right now if I didn't step outside the box of what I knew myself as, and what people identified me as. Being a redhead helped me dive into my womanhood and embrace my sexuality," she wrote. "Now I'm ready to jump back to my roots with everything I learned and integrated into my body and spirit!" Thanks to Julianne Hough, we now have definitive proof of the life-changing effects of a simple hair-color switch-up.
