Jennifer Garner Opens Up About Her Post-Baby Body Struggles

When it comes to pregnancy, the changing female body can present unchartered terrain to new and expecting mothers who suddenly find themselves held hostage in a body they don’t recognise or relate to. Even despite the miracle of birth, the social conditioning we’ve received from media outlets has often overshadowed such joys, with new mums expected to bounce back into their pre-baby bodies almost immediately. It’s a struggle many are familiar with, but for Hollywood stars, it’s one that plays out on the global stage.

In a recent appearance on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast, Jennifer Garner opened up about her post-baby body and struggle to get fit and slim after having children. Garner, who has three children, Violet, Seraphina and Samuel with her ex-husband Ben Affleck, said she’s accepted that her body just won’t go back to the way it looked before she had children.

“There are some incredible women whose bodies just – no matter how many babies they have, they just bounce right back to that slim hips, no stomach,” she explained. “I mean it’s incredible. I have so many girlfriends who have that physique and I’m so happy for them. I am not one of them, that is not my gig.”

She added, “I can work really hard and I can be really fit and I’ll still look like a woman who has three babies, and I always will.”

Fans may recall that Garner also appeared on the Ellen show, after DeGeneres offered her a way to shut down all the rumours about her being pregnant. For Garner, it was the easiest way to get the rumours to stop, although she admits they’re still ongoing. “I just thought, I might as well address it and Ellen was so sweet to let me. But I just felt like, ‘We might as well.’ I mean, every week, ‘Is she? Is she? Is she pregnant?’ And it’s still happening. And I’m 48 and I’m single and it’s still happening. So, you might as well take that bull by the horns.”

On the show, Garner explained: “I am not pregnant, but I have had three kids and there is a bump. From now on ladies, I will have a bump. And it will be my baby bump. And let’s just all settle in and get used to it. It’s not going anywhere. I have a bump. Its name is Violet, Sam, Sera.”
