Speedo shared a first look today at the new U.S. Federation swimsuits that competitors including Caeleb Dressel, Hali Flickinger, Jamal Hill, and Ryan Murphy will wear during the Summer Olympics in Tokyo starting next month.
The latest Fastskin suits—the Fastskin LZR Pure Intent and Fastskin LZR Pure Valor—feature bold new designs and harness much of the same tech as their predecessors, which have been worn by more than half of all world record-breaking swimmers since the launch of the line in 2019. (Michael Phelps famously wore the Fastskin II on his way to winning eight gold medals in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.)
This year, the Intent features three new fabrics designed to help improve flexibility, compression and drag reduction. The more lightweight Valor, meanwhile, touts moderate compression and bonded seams to help athletes maximize comfort and speed.
While developing the suits, Speedo says it worked with a wide range of partners, which included London’s Natural History Museum and Formula 1 to improve their hydrodynamics and biomechanics. The manufacturer also claims it studied the “ancestry of sharks and how they reduce drag when they swim.”
“We are honored to be on this journey with these special athletes as they represent the USA and compete against the world’s best,” said Speedo North America President Jim Gerson. “We hope to see more records broken and medals won in Speedo suits this summer.”
Until then, here’s what you can expect to see the swimmers wearing on the starting blocks.
