The number of state warnings against eating contaminated food in Germany is heading this year to a record high.
The establishment of the Federal office for consumer protection and food safety (BVL), from the first had quoted the Funke media group.
Food recalls: the highest level since the beginning of the portal
By the end of November 2019, the BVL published on the Portal ‘lebensmittelwarnung.de’ already 183 warnings for food. In the total year 2018, there were 186 cases – that was the highest level since the launch of the portal in 2011.
For an increase in the warnings, there can be various reasons for this, it could actually increase in the number of impurities, or better controls, or a lower reporting threshold.
Most of the warnings were there in 2019 due to meat, game, poultry and sausage (51), followed by milk and dairy products (27). Reason for a warning of microbiological contamination and foreign body were particularly often.
