‘Going To The Gym Used To Be Torture—Until My Husband Bought Me These Headphones’

Megan Ardoin

I love working out…now; but it hasn’t always been that way.

I started going to the gym regularly in my twenties—I’m 45 now, FYI—just because I wanted to get in shape; not necessarily to lose weight, but to get stronger and fitter.

Starting a workout routine was a struggle—but the one thing that helped me stick to it (and now, keeps me coming back to the gym even when I don’t feel like going) was queuing up an awesome playlist.

Basically, I used music as an energy boost. It gave me the extra push I needed to start—and finish—strong (you can’t just quit in the middle of a song!).

But, damn, headphones used to suck. After years of hearing me complain about wires getting in the way of my work outs and earbuds constantly falling out, my husband bought me a pair of Wireless Powerbeats from Beats by Dr. Dre. Game = changed.

They wrap around my ears so they don’t fall out when I’m going hard, and when I’m not using them, I can hang them easily around my neck. Basically, they don’t limit how I move at all. It’s the little things that make working out more comfortable—and some days, I can all use all the help I can get.

And I don’t know how they do it, but these earbuds make every song sound amazing—the quality is crystal clear. Honestly, any day I forget to bring these earbuds to the gym is not a good day.

So yeah, I’m just a little obsessed with them. Even now that I’m set in an solid workout routine (I typically go to the gym three times a week now) there are days when my earbuds (and my music, of course) are the only things that get me to the gym and through a workout. In fact, I actually look forward to putting them in, turning my music on, and moving my body. Hey, whatever works, right?
