Arguably one of the most booked-and-busy stars in Hollywood, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is no stranger to working hard, and his training is no exception. He’s spoken before about how he never ends a workout early, and the first thing he does when he arrives somewhere new is find the nearest gym.
In a recent video on Instagram, Johnson elaborated on his work ethic, saying that putting in some extra effort on a Sunday—”sweat equity,” as he calls it—has helped him become successful.
“If you can find that time on a Sunday, especially on a Sunday when most aren’t working, and that’s fine, we all need that break, that recalibrating, that resetting,” he said. “Sometimes we need to unplug after the busy ass week we just had. But if you can find a way to get a little bit of work in on a Sunday, it just inherently sharpens those tools that set you up for success. It’s doing that little bit extra, that little bit more work on a Sunday, when most aren’t. Just a little bit. It doesn’t have to be crazy hours, but just find a little bit of time, it just gives you that edge.”
While he’s never been a slouch when it comes to his training, Johnson has especially upped the ante this year, working out harder than ever before and getting into the best shape of his career to play the comic book character Black Adam in an upcoming movie from DC. He’s shared insights into his new training regime on Instagram, and described how embodying the physicality is helping him get into character. He also promises that Black Adam is going to “raise the bar in terms of superhero movies.”
