Ben Coomber is a nutrition educator and helps train nutrition coaches, posting nutrition tips on his Instagram, as well as working as a nutritionist for eatlean. He gave his advice to dealing with Christmas bloating.

He told readers bloating should pass, and the best way to get rid of it is to get back to your usual routine as soon as possible.

He said: “Bloating should be transient. It will happen when you eat foods that react with you (causing very short-term bloating), or you overindulge.

“People often mistake bloating with simply putting on body fat, and or eating a lot in short space of time which also increases water storage, making you feel bloated, and or fat.

“The best thing you can do is get back to eating a normal healthy diet as soon as possible, sleeping well, and getting some exercise in.

“But ultimately if you don’t want to feel bloated don’t overeat and look after yourself.

Ben recommends “resetting” after the Christmas period.

He said: “Just take a moment, be thankful for a wonderful time of relaxing and indulging at Christmas and make a plan to get back to your normal, or better self.

“Write a shopping list, plan your diet, get to bed on time, get the exercise in, hydrate well, and give it time.

“People don’t need an extreme diet, or a detox, just reset.

“Take action, be consistent, and above all, be patient.

“Making these incremental changes, will in turn create long term benefits for the body.”

A bath

A bath can soothe a painful torso. Relaxing in hot water and the de-stressing benefits could cause your gut to relax and help to release gas.

Massage

Try massaging in a circular pattern up and and across the tummy, starting and the right hip.

Move up and around down to the bottom him. This can help move the bowels. However, stop if it hurts.

One expert told Express.co.uk how drinking celery juice could help to reduce bloating. 

“Celery juice is quite good actually, having celery juice for bloating,” Dr Megan Rossi said.

Celery juice is made simply by blending the raw vegetable with water.

“It contains a lot of fibre, which helps with bloating.
