Dr Amir lists three red flags in your eyebrows that could signal health problems

Dr Amir Khan on what your eyebrow say about your health

Dr Amir Khan has revealed that your eyebrows could reveal a lot about your health.

Everything in your body is connected and works together, which means that health problems can rear their ugly heads in many ways.

While you might tune into how you feel on the inside when looking for signs of something being wrong, looking into the mirror could also reveal clues.

Speaking on ITV’s show Lorraine, the TV doctor said: “If you’re looking at your eyebrows, provided you haven’t plucked or coloured them in, there’s things you can look for.”

1. Thinning eyebrows

The doctor explained that if you have thinning eyebrows, particularly around the outside area, that can be a sign of an underactive thyroid.

“So you might want to get that checked,” he added.

According to the NHS, this occurs when your thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones, resulting in signs like tiredness, weight gain and feeling depressed.

Apart from an underactive thyroid, thinning eyebrows could also be a red flag for a nutrient deficiency, particularly iron deficiency.

According to the NHS, other symptoms of iron deficiency can include shortness of breath, noticeable heartbeats and pale skin.

2. Eyebrows that stick out

Another clue could be hidden in eyebrows that are sticking out a little bit, Dr Amir explained.

This sign combined with flaky skin or thinning eyebrows could be pointing to psoriasis.

Psoriasis refers to an autoimmune condition that causes flaky patches of skin, which form silvery-white or grey scales, the health service explains.

3. Patchy eyebrows

Furthermore, patchy eyebrows could be a warning sign that you have alopecia, the GP shared. Alopecia is the general medical term for hair loss, which can have many causes.

Dr Amir urged getting these signs checked. “Don’t just colour [your eyebrows] in, get them checked,” he added.
