Stores across the country are trying to find new ways to keep their workers and their store locations as safe and healthy as possible during this global pandemic. Trader Joe’s recently closed a few locations after crew members either tested positive or were showing symptoms of COVID-19. Costco, our favorite wholesale retailer for everything from beauty products to kid’s toys, is taking extra steps to protect its workers and customers as well.
Costco Instagram fan account @Costco_doesitagain posted a picture of new temporary store hours on Thursday morning. Most warehouses close at 8:30 p.m., but according to the notice posted on Instagram, Costco will begin closing stores two hours earlier at 6:30 p.m. starting Monday, March 30 2020. Costco warehouses will also close at 6 p.m. on weekends.
Costco hasn’t made an official announcement about the new hours yet, but we did call three different stores in New York and Florida and all three confirmed that they will be changing their store hours beginning on Monday. Another Costco fan account @CostcoBuys posted that the new hours will affect stores nationwide but we haven’t been able to confirm that with Costco at the time of publication. We suggest calling your local Costco to verify their hours or plan to do your shopping a little earlier if possible.
We also haven’t been provided with an official reason for the new store hours but we assume it’s to give employees a much-needed break after several weeks of dealing with enormous crowds. Crowd-size has been dwindling recently and the new hours will allow employees to restock and sanitize warehouses as well.
Several Costco locations have also implemented a safety feature at cash registers to protect employees and customers.
These protective barriers seem to be in place in all Costco locations as well as other grocery stores like Wegmans in New York. We could not be more grateful for the dedicated employees that show up every day so that we can shop for all of our essential items and we applaud Costco for taking steps to protect their employees and their customers with these new safety measures.
