Halle Berry Just Shared Her Favorite Low-Impact Exercises On Instagram

Halle Berry is no stranger to crazy tough workouts—and she’s got the bod to prove it. But that doesn’t mean she’s always hitting it hard at the gym.

In her latest Instagram post, Halle shared that learning to train to avoid injury was a super important topic for her. That’s why she discussed it with her trainer, Peter Lee Thomas, for their #PhitTalks series on her Instagram Story Friday.

The duo started off by addressing a super common issue: working out with bad knees. Thomas suggested replacing moves like squats with kickbacks and glute bridges (a solid rec).

Halle also talked up the importance of stretching and having a warm-up and cool-down plan—she’s a fan of cat-cow, child’s pose, and cobra stretch from yoga. “You can’t just jump into exercise,” she said. “Like if you’ve never kickboxed, don’t just go to a gym when you’re 35 and think you’re just gonna tear it up.” Preach Halle!

“You can tear it up, but have someone who’s knowledgeable in the field walk you through the steps so you can actually tear it up without hurting yourself,” she continued. Clearly, she’s into listening to her 52-year-old body and taking it slow when she’s trying a new workout.

For low-impact cardio, Thomas suggested using an indoor rower, but Halle said she loves the elliptical machine. “I could do that thing for two hours!” she says in the video. Whoa.

Thomas noted that you don’t have to be that extreme to reap the exercise benefits, adding that walking up stairs or hills is a great low-impact substitute for running.

Props to Halle for getting wise about her workout strategy with age! Even if you’re not injured, functional fitness—or training for everyday and long-term strength and mobility—is a smart move.
