Ellie Goulding Swears Intermittent Fasting Helps Her Feel Fit AF

How does Ellie Goulding stay in shape, you ask? It involves a little sweat and a lot of willpower.

Not only is the British singer a regular in the boxing ring (she often posts videos of herself sparring with her coach Shane McGuigan to Insta), she’s big on running, strength training and resistance workouts.

“I’ll run to Faisal’s class (at Barry’s Bootcamp) in the morning. It’s only about 25 minutes from home and it gets my heart rate up enough to go in and be ready because it’s quite tough,” she told Women’s Health UK.

“I’m more of a burst girl than sustained. I like it when the treadmills on dynamic and I do sprints. I prefer using my own body as weight, so press-ups, mountain climbers and burpees.”

Sounds… sweaty, to say the least. Plus, she does all this while intermittent fasting up to 40 hours per week.

“I do it very safely by having a purposefully nutritious food day the day before and after,” she told The Mirror. “On the fast day, I drink high-grade electrolytes and a LOT of water (plus tea and coffee).”

“Fasting is safe and beneficial unless you are diabetic or have serious health issues,” she added, before noting that this practice helps to give her “digestive system a break.”

Worth noting: she worked up to this slowly. “I built my way up to 40-hour fasts over time (started with 12),” she said. “It helps blood sugar control and helps fight inflammation – the mother of ALL health problems.”

And for all the haters concerned the Grammy nominee might be taking her healthy habits too far? Ellie has approval from her doctor – although she stresses that she’s not offering this regimen up as “advice” to others.

“I didn’t give it as advice,” she said on Twitter. “I eat a seriously huge amount and exercise regularly. I drink sometimes, eat whatever I want, and then I fast for one day a week,” she continued. “It is not starving myself.

“I do it safely and am incredibly fit and healthy. I’d say I’m a pretty decent role model x.”
