Arnold Schwarzenegger Just Shared a Workout With the Head of the EPA

Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t slow to speak up when it comes to the contentious political issues of the day, from the Covid-19 pandemic—he recently called people who refuse vaccines and masks “schmucks”—to the environment, particularly surrounding clean energy and electric cars. But he’s not just talk on social media or on the news; Schwarzenegger is also working with people in power to advocate for the causes he cares about.

The Governator recently shared a video on Instagram to show off his most recent training montage—and he wasn’t alone. He was joined by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan. The pair crushed reps on a series of exercise machines (Arnold has largely avoided free weights since 2012, after a long bodybuilding career and injuries) largely focused on the chest and back, pressing and pulling through a circuit in an outdoor gym. Unsurprisingly, Schwarzenegger took the opportunity for some environmental advocacy.

“We talked about how you need a plan in the gym just like you need a plan to terminate pollution,” Schwarzenegger wrote in the post’s caption. He extrapolated exactly how he suggests to do that in a separate video shared on his TikTok page. “I think it’s very important that you’re part of the solution rather than part of the problem,” he says. He then provides three steps that he suggests people can take to do just that: stop using plastic, buy local goods and produce, and eat less meat.
