High blood pressure is a common condition that affects more than a quarter of all adults in the UK. You could lower your chances of developing hypertension symptoms by simply sitting in silence, according to ITV This Morning’s Dr Chris Steele.
High blood pressure – which is also known as hypertension – puts extra stress on blood vessels and vital organs.
The condition could lead to some deadly complications, including strokes and heart attacks.
It’s crucial that your hypertension is diagnosed as soon as possible.
You could lower your risk of high blood pressure by simply sitting in silence, according to Dr Chris.
Sitting in a quiet place has numerous benefits for your overall health, he said.
Without even thinking about it, sitting in silence relaxes our breathing.
Deep breathing subsequently slows down the heart rate, which also relaxes the heart.
Everyone should aim to just sit quietly for a few minutes every now and again to boost their health, he added.
“We know that silence is very powerful,” said This Morning’s Dr Chris.
“If you sit a while in a silent environment with no distractions, you actually start to breathe slower.
“Your pulse rate slows down, and your heart slows down. That’s beneficial to the heart, and also the blood pressure.
“You can’t control your heart directly, but if you sit in silence and breathe in and out slowly, you will slow your pulse rate down.”
