Rugby: Consequences of concussion can be ‘serious’ says expert
Concussion describes a sudden but short-lived loss of mental function that occurs after a blow or other injury to the head.
While most head injuries aren’t serious, you should get medical help if you experience symptoms.
Dr Alder, of Re:Cognition Health, shared symptoms to look out for: “Concussions can affect the brain’s ability to regulate emotions, leading to irritability, depression, anxiety, or other mood changes.
“Watch for sudden changes in behaviour or personality that seem out of character.”

Those who have suffered from a concussion may also suffer from balance issues.
Dr Allder said: “Dizziness, unsteadiness, or difficulty maintaining balance are common signs of concussion.

A blow to the head could also result in “problems with memory, concentration, and other cognitive functions”.
Dr Allder told the Ealing Times: “This may manifest as forgetfulness, difficulty following conversations, or feeling mentally foggy.”
A concussion could also impair sleep, leading to changes in sleeping patterns.
This may manifest as difficulty falling or staying asleep, or sleeping more than usual.
