During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, when asked how he passed the time in prison, Sorrentino explained that he found working out and having a sense of routine really helpful.

“I would wake up every morning and I would do a very similar schedule,” he said. “I was very regimented, I stayed in my intermittent fasting, which is not easy if anybody knows about fasting, for 16 to 19 hours a day it’s not easy, you feel almost like a reward once you’ve finished a day, like wow, I did 19 hours today along with working out two to three times along with reading a book or the Bible or a magazine… so I felt very accomplished, staying busy in prison.”

Sorrentino would go to bed at 10 p.m. every night and wake up at 7 a.m,, then do an hour of cardio. His fasting window would be 16 to 17 hours on weekdays, and 18 to 19 hours on weekends. “I had to continually challenge myself,” he said, “whether it was in the gym, and/or diet, as well as reading books and trying to progress, you know, spiritually as well. Because if you do not keep yourself busy in there… I saw a lot of things in prison where guys weren’t doing those things and you saw depression and anxiety, sort of, you know, taking control.”

Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months in Otisville Federal Correctional Institution for tax evasion. After he got out earlier this month, he joked that he and his wife Lauren Pesce celebrated with a “naked pizza party.” In addition to reading and working out, he also admitted to enjoying watching the latest season of his show, Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, which was airing while he was inside.
