Man tries ‘every diet’ and reveals what weight loss method really works

There are a lot of weight loss plans out there, like Slimming World, WW (perviously known as Weight Watchers) and LighterLife.

One man claims to have tried everything from the Dukan Diet, the South Beach, the Paleo and the 5:2, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Marco Holst turned to intermittent fasting, low-carb, restricting calories and “every diet in the book”, according to his Q&A on Quora.

So what has he learnt? Which diets are healthy? And which should be avoided in the future?

“There is not one perfect diet, only the one that works for you”

According to Marco, 95% of diets will fails within a year, but it’s to do with them not being sustainable rather than how effective they are.

This is because so many diets require certain foods to be removed which causes people to slip back into old habits.

Marco, who studied medicine and healthcare, explained: “Because we all define a diet as something timely limited.

“We diet for a month, two, or even three. But this won’t keep your weight off, if you go back to your old habits. There is not one perfect diet, only the one that works for you.”

Marco advises to avoid “drinking your calories” if possible and when it comes to exercise to always train with someone else.

So what does the NHS say about dieting?

According to the website, many fad diets are based on “dodgy science or no research”, prescribing eating practices that are unhealthy and can make you ill.

As some diets recommend cutting out certain foods, this could prevent you getting the important nutrients and vitamins your body needs to function properly.

The NHS recommends following a balanced diet and exercising regularly to lose weight, for more information visit the website.
